This summer I have committed to competing in the Ironman NZ and the Coast to Coast Longest Day - two of the toughest sport races in New Zealand. I want to use this massive physical and mental challenge to help raise funds for the Chasing Soul Charitable Trust – a charity we have established in the honour and memory of my brother, Stephen Brown, who we lost to suicide last year.
The charity seeks “to help people in our community who face mental health challenges and to also help those left behind from suicide or sudden death" www.chasingsoulcharity.org
Ironman NZ is 3.8km swim, 180km bike and 42km run triathlon in Taupo on Saturday 10th December 2022 https://www.ironman.com/im-new-zealand
Coast to Coast is a 243km multi-sport race that traverses from the West to East Coast of New Zealand’s South Island in a series of run, bike and kayak legs on Saturday 11th February 2023. https://www.coasttocoast.co.nz/
I always wanted to tackle to both of these iconic events ‘one day’ and through losing Stephen it has given me the motivation to make it happen. While I’ve always been into exercise, a couple of years ago I couldn’t swim or kayak and had never owned a road bike. So, it has been a crash course into the world of multisport!
